Site file window

Once you have completed defining your site you are ready to create, edit and upload your web site One of the main tools that allow you to do this in Dreamweaver, is called the Site File Window, and is shown below.

Notice that all your local files are located in the left column of the window, under Local Folder. The remote copy of your web site is located in the right hand column of the window, under Remote Site.

Connection to FTP Host

1. Press The remote site files / folders will appear under the Remote Site column. While you are connected, the icon becomes .


To upload your files to your FTP Host

1. Select the file you want to upload in the Local Folder view and then press.

2. Dreamweaver may then ask you if you want to upload dependent files. Click Yes.
Whenever you upload a newer version of your files, Dreamweaver will automatically overwrite the older file. A dependent file is a file that your HTML page uses, for example an image.

To get files from your FTP Host

1. To retrieve files from the web server for whatever reason, select the file you want in the Remote Site column and the press.

If you do not see changes immediately reflected in either window, click the refresh button .
