To paste an image inside a shape

A nice feature in fireworks, is that you can have a picture to be in a particular shape for example like a star or a rectangle with curved edges. In Fireworks you can do that by following the steps below:

1. Make the shape that you want using the ordinary shape tools found in your toolbar such as rounded rectangle or circle.

2. Place the photograph or image where you want it, within the shape.
3. Select the image and Edit > cut or using the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl +X)
4. Then select the shape and click on Edit > Paste Inside or using the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+V)

5. The picture is placed within the shape, if you want to move the picture within the shape, click on the subselection tool in the toolbar and select the picture.
6. You can move the image within the shape to get the perfect position. The image and the shape is now an object. If you select the object with the selection tool, you can add effects such as inner bevel or a drop shadow. Play around, you can get some interesting looking graphics.
Remember: You can also paste multiple images within a given shape.

Drawing rectangles with rounded corners

1. Use the "Rectangle Tool" to draw a rectangle

2. then by using object panel you can adjust the corner roundness of your selected rectangle to an radius from 0% to 100%.

Remember: rounded rectangle tool draws rectangles as grouped objects, to be able to move the rectangle points independently, you have to ungroup the rectangle or using the subselection tool. The result is going to be something like the image below.
