Master Page

When working with multi-page publications, your design will be more cohesive if each page is built on a common foundation, or master page. A master page contains elements such as headers, footers, and page numbers.
When you start a new publication it contains a master page document and this master page is going to be applied to all pages in the publication until you specify otherwise. The image below shows the master page document.

Setting up Pages

To start a new publication choose file > new publication, a set up dialog box appears which you can define your basic parameters. You can select a standard page size from the page size pop-up menu. Also, you can specify a custom page size up to 42 by 42 inches. For orientation, you can choose portrait or landscape orientation. If you want to have facing page, meaning left and right pages displayed together, select facing page option and double sided.

Setting Margins

The margins that you specify in your document setup dialog box is going to be applied to the document master page. Remember that when you select double sided, margin are set as inside and outside, and when double sided is deselected, PageMaker changes inside and outside to left and right margins. The image below shows the document setup and the margins.
