Chiseled Edge Effect

With the mouse button held down, draw a jagged edge selection from the top to the bottom. Do Not release The Button. When you get to the bottom drag the Lasso to the left side of the image and around up the left side, along the top back to the right to the starting spot. Release the mouse button.
2. Press Command -J to place this selection on a layer of its own. Then click once on the background layer in the layer pallet to make it active. Then press Command-A to select the entire background layer. Press Delete to erase the background layer. Press Command -D to deselect. You should now have a white background layer and the torn edge piece on Layer 1. Click Layer 1 once to make it active.
3. Make two copies of Layer 1 by dragging Layer 1 to the Layer icon at the bottom of the Layer pallet twice. Arrange the layers to reflect this order:
Layer 1 Copy 2
Layer 1 Copy
Layer 1
Background
4. Make Layer 1 Copy 2 active. Go to Levels. Move the left output slider to the right until the number is around 165. Press OK. Then Click and drag this lightened layer ( Layer 1 Copy 2) below Layer 1. Click on Layer 1 copy (now the top layer). Press Option / Shift / Delete to fill the layer with black. Apply a Gaussian blur to the layer. A five or six pixel radius will do. Drag Layer 1 Copy behind Layer 1 Copy 2.
